Our approach

Plan country and language versions

Customers in two countries can share a language while needing different prices, delivery details or service information. Customers in the same country may use different languages. We identify those needs before choosing URLs or commissioning translation.

The content owner matters as much as the initial launch. Every version needs a plan for product changes, legal or commercial information, customer support and ongoing editing. Publishing versions the business cannot maintain creates avoidable confusion.

Implement hreflang and regional navigation

Canonicals, regional links and hreflang should reflect pages that actually exist. A language switch should take someone to the equivalent content when available, rather than disguise a move to an unrelated homepage. Missing versions should be handled honestly.

Localise the complete customer journey

We plan terminology, units, currency, examples and conversion routes with the people who know the market. Native-language review is needed before publishing translated material. English regional pages are not presented as translations into another language.

Discuss your target markets

Bird works from London and Essex with businesses serving nearby customers, the wider UK and international markets. We agree which of those audiences matters to this brief before recommending pages or campaigns. Contact the team to confirm meeting arrangements and bring the website, business priorities and any relevant constraints to the discussion.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need separate domains for each country?

Separate domains, subdomains and subdirectories have different operational tradeoffs. We consider your existing sites, audiences, publishing ownership and ability to maintain each version. The choice should support the markets you actually serve.

What does hreflang do?

Hreflang identifies genuine language or regional equivalents. We check that the target URLs exist, are appropriate equivalents and link back consistently. It complements a clear site structure and does not replace localisation or guarantee which page Google will show.

Can regional pages share English content?

Yes, when the shared material remains accurate for each audience. Contact routes, service coverage and commercial details still need review. Artificial wording changes are not a useful substitute for a truthful regional offer.

Do you provide translation as part of international SEO?

Translation and local review are separate responsibilities that must be agreed. We can plan page equivalents, briefs and technical requirements. Each language version needs an owner who can verify the meaning and the full enquiry or purchase journey.

How do you research demand in another market?

We agree the audience, language and services before reviewing relevant searches and competitors. Local terminology and buyer questions can differ from the home market. Research should inform actual page decisions rather than produce a list of translated keywords.

Can you audit an existing multi-domain setup?

Yes. We can review regional routing, canonicals, hreflang, internal links and publishing consistency. We also identify missing equivalents and market-specific requirements. Access to the people responsible for each site helps turn findings into a maintainable plan.
